Guard murdered in Zomba: Malawi Police waiting for autopsy results
Police in Zomba have said are waiting for a postmortem to launch investigations which will lead to the arrest of suspects who killed a sixty-five-year-old guard Edson Makumba at the house of Nalima Muhammad in Matawale Township in the city.
There was mayhem at Muhammad’s residence on Sunday evening when relatives of the deceased and communities demanded to know the cause of death from the owner of the house. Police had to rush to the area to quell the situation.
Eastern Region Police spokesperson Thomeck Nyaude told Nyasa Times that they are waiting for a postmortem from Zomba Central Hospital to establish the circumstances that led to the death of Makumba.
Said Nyaude: “So far no arrest has been made because police has not yet established the cause of death and we are awaiting postmortem results.
“But let me point out that the police have instituted investigations to arrest the suspects who took the law into their own hands and broke the house of the deceased’s employer Nalima Muhammad.”
In a related development, the police spokesperson has also refuted the rumours making rings in Zomba that a student from Likangala Secondary School had been murdered in maize garden near Matawale River.
“We heard the rumour and after investigations it has been found that the news is not true as nobody has reported to the police of any missing person,” said Nyaude.
