Heroic welcome awaits Malawi Queens: Airtel to lead
They left like beggars but grand welcome awaits the Malawi national netball team the Queens as they return from the Fast5 World Netball Championship which came to an end on Sunday in Melbourne, Australia.
The Queens finished third at the tournament after beating heavyweights England in their final game in the play-offs on Sunday.
They are expected to land at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) at 12:30pm.
They expect to receive a heroes welcome following their impressive perfomance at the tournament led by official sponsors Airtel Malawi Limited.
Airtel Malawi Marketing Executive Tione Kafumbu confirmed there are alot of activities lined up as part of a special treat for the Queens.
According to Kafumbu, upon arrival, the queens will be treated to a luncheon at the Capital Hotel where other surprises will be unpacked.
Kafumbu said Airtel being official sponsors for the flagship Queens are happy with the achievements of the team.
“We are just very happy and proud with the perfomance and achievements of the team” said Kafumbu.
He however refused to disclose the surprising package for the Queens.
Meanwhile, Malawi Council of Sports (MCS) and government have sent congratulatory messages to the team following their top three finish.
MCS and government officials have announced they will be part of Malawians to welcome the Queens at the airport despite failing to provide financial assistance to the Queens in time of need as the team through the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) were knocking doors
begging for a shortfall of K18 Million to enable the association pay the players their allowances before departure.
A Great Day for Malawians, A Greater Day for Tumbukas. Just to let you know that the successful all rampaging Queens comprise of 9 Tumbukas and 1 Chewa. Here as follows: Towera Vinkhumbo, Grace Mwafulirwa, Joyce Mvula, Takondwa Lwazi, Mwayi Kumwenda, Bridget Kumwenda, Joana Kachilika, Jane Chimaliro, and the lone Chewa Thandie Gareta.
Kaganizidwe aka sikatithandiza. Mpaka mukuganiza za quota system in sports? Koma titukukadi? A Malawi, tiyeni tisinthe kaganizidwe. Of course, if you know of someone (really skillful) being sidelined coz is a nono-northerner, just come forth for ndizolakwika zomwe ziyenera kukozedwa otherwise, we are Malawi. And the pride is for the whole Malawi, and not one section (ribe, region or otherwise).
iiiii koma ku Malawi abale, basi mwati muyambepo yanu ija ya mitundu….. shame on uuuu! How i hate to be a Malawian when i read something stinky like this..
Are you still thinking of tribalism in century? Instead of thinking of how to become rich, you are wasting of your time analyzing Queens. I think Mphwache, you are very stupid and uncivilized by nature. With this mentality, you will die poor. ,Mphwache ,Please start thinking of how to make money not tribalism nonsense.
Iweyo wafufuza kuti amayi a ana amenewa akuchokera kuti? Iwe Mphwache ndiye Chindere chakufikapo
Malawi Council of Sports, a useless institution. They fail to provide assistance to the pride of the nation yet they provide the council’s bus to ferry DPP die hards to welcome APM at Kamuzu International Airport. Where are the reforms we have been talking about? May be the reforms are just about how to abuse public resources in a different way. VP should tell us the progress of the reforms. My quick analysis is that nothing is changing for the better. If anything it is getting worse and it is pointless wasting more resources on the ineffective reform commission.
These girls are simply great netballers in the world. Their performance is consistent.
