JB appoints new Malawi High Court judges
Malawi President Mrs Joyce Banda has appointed four prominent lawyers to tbe judges of the High Court of Malawi.
Accoridng to Office of President and Cabinet, President Banda had made the appointments in consultation with the Judicial Service Commission in line with the constitution.
Those appointed to the High Court bench include Mrs Fiona Atupele Mwale who previously served as a law reform officer with the Malawi Law Commission and worked as a legal researcher with the Southern African Development (SADC) Tribunal . She also served as President of the Women Lawyers Association of Malawi.
Chairperson of the Industrial Relations Court (IRC) Rachel Sikwese has also been posted to High Court as a judge. Others are former Registrar of the High Court Dorothy Kamanga and Kenyatta Nyirenda.
President Banda – married to retired Chief Judstice Richard Banda – is on record saying the role of the judiciary in the country cannot be underestimated describing it as an arm of Government that needs to be respected.
