JB elevates Chiradzulu’s Chitera to Senior Chief
President Joyce Banda on Monday elevated Traditional Authority Chitera to Senior Chief at a colorful function that took place at Chief Chitera Headquarters in Chiradzulu district.
Speaking during the function, President Banda described Senior Chief Chitera as one of the hardest working senior chiefs in the country. Banda said she has known Senior Chief Chitera as a champion of women’s empowerment and an architect of development in Chiradzulu.
Said President Banda: “Every time we have wanted a female voice in as far as women’s empowerment is concerned, we have always asked Senior Chief Chitera to help us, her record in women’s empowerment and development is above excellent”
President Banda said that under the Mudzi Transformation Fund, her government will develop rural communities by helping to improve people’s access to housing, food and safe drinking water.
She said the chiefs will play pivotal role in the implementation of the Project.
Senior Chief Chitera has been on the throne for over 30 years.
