Joy Radio technician arrested for assaulting driver
Soche Police in Blantyre have arrested head technician for Joy Radio Station Adbul Razak Telera for beating up a driver after he refused to surrender a company car to run personal errands.
Nyasa Times understands that this is the second time Telera has assaulted a fellow employee as he also roughed up the station’s messenger last year.
According sources at the radio, the incident happened on Monday at the Joy Radio headquarters in Blantyre.
“Telera invited the driver a Mr Chimwaza to his office where he started to interrogate him why he refused to go to his house in Chilobwe to surrender the car,” said the sources.
The driver is said to have responded that management did not give him consent to leave the car with him over the weekend.
Telera then started to beat him right in his office until some members of staff rescued the helpless driver from the assault.
After the incident the technician knocked off around 11 am after the driver to report the matter to police.
After being summoned, Telera surrendered himself to the Police on Tuesday morning.
Telera who is on police bail is expected to appear in court to answer a charge of common assault.
The matter has also been report to the Communication Workers Union of Malawi, which Joy Radio is an affiliate.

bEATING A FELLOW MEMBER OF STAFF. wHAT TYPE OF MANAGEMENT IS THAT? cORPORAL MANAGEMENT OR WHAT? iS THE DRIVER YOUR WIFE OR CHILDE? mOSLEMS YOU PREACH PEACE AND UNITY, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE HERE. IS THIS THE TEACHING OF MOHAMAD AND HIS WIFE KHADJA?
Nyasala bongwe dyabu wapezi pezi. Ndi m’bale wa a tcheya no wonder he is untouchable but has been caught by the long arm of the law. Kape ameneyu eti. Amenyeni ndi Kayuni tione ngati alimbe
If indeed this is the second time, where is Joy Management and what is it doing about it since things took place within premises? Am of the view that this should not have been a Police issue before Management handled it, unless the assaulter is untouchable man to management!
