Kachaje elected president of Malawi economics body: Bokosi deputy
Business Consult Africa (BCA) Managing Director Henry Kachaje has been elected president of the Economists Association of Malawi (ECAMA).
Kachaje was elected during ECAMA annual general meeting which was held on Friday in Blantyre.
He pledged to “advise government on economic policies” saying ECAMA will reposition to be an economic think-tank in which policy makers and the public can tap its expertise.
Kachaje has replaced Edward Chilima who said in his report that the association has managed to generate presidential interest in its annual conferences.
Chilima noted that Ecama members have over the past years been appointed into various important advisory committees at national level.
According to Chilima, Ecama has also managed to grow the number of corporate members from 1 to 19 but lamented that the association is still not financially independent.
The body elected Dr Fanuel Bokosi as its deputy president, secretary general is Davie Lockie, deputy secretary is Chikumbutso Kalilombe and Lorraine Nyasulu is the purse keeper.
Committee members include Dr Thomas Munthali, June Kambalametole, Esnart Luweya and Luwina Banda.
