Kaka bids farewell to Zembani, joins Real Sounds
Keyboardist and vocalist Kaka whose real name is Kanthu Kalinda has decorated musician and owner of Zembani Banda Lucius Banda with the title of “ Malawi music godfather”.
Kalinda said this as he bid farewell to Zembani Band which he joined in 2010 and in respect of Banda who has had a generous music career for over two decades.
The multi-talented musician has since joined Lilongwe based Real Sounds Band which is owned by one of Malawi’s celebrated music icon Skeffa Chimoto.
“I regard Lucius as my father. He has not only helped me, but a couple of other successful musicians in the country. He is the godfather of music in Malawi” said the musician on Thursday.
Kaka who spent over four months in hospital after being involved in a car accident said his decision to quit Zembani has been reached upon based on several factors including his current health status. He sustained a serious fracture on his leg.
He has since relocated to Lilongwe and with the way he is struggling with his leg, he cannot manage to be travelling from Lilongwe to Balaka [where Zembani Band is based] hence the need to join another Lilongwe based band.
He further claimed that he has been forced to return to stage for the sake of his fans.
The 27 year old Kaka sustained a serious leg injury when he was involved in road accident as he was travelling from Mzimba where he was hired to perform with a Zambian friend while his then Band Zembani was in Zambia.
Meanwhile, Banda has confirmed parting ways with Kaka and has ushered him with best wishes.
Welcome to real sounds.. amai maria mukhale nkhoswe yanga..
