Kaliati threatens to seal off disability non friendly buildings in Malawi
Minister of Gender, Child welfare and Disability Patricia Kaliati has threatened goverment will seal off all buildings which are not friendly to persons with disability.
Kaliati said this Thursday after visiting FMB Bank in Mzuzu where she ordered management to modify the bank building to be disability friendly.
This was part of the commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Kaliati’s comments echoed concerns from Fedoma which said people seem not to adhere to the new disability law which mandates building structures to be disability friendly.
Fedoma spokesperson Lyson Mapanga said there was need for public buildings, including hospitals and schools to be disability friendly.
Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi (Fedoma) board chairperson Towera Masiku called on government to speed up the national mainstreaming strategy to enable issues of disabilities to be included in all programmes.

These statements really indicate lack of education. There are bulding Bye-laws in this country. The question should be whether the buildings conform to those laws. Discussing closing buildings should follow discussing the change of those laws or if whether the buildings in point conform to those laws.
Good.
LET’S START WITH CAPITOL HILL AND YOUR HOUSE.
You have to set the example kikikiki
Are you gonna shut all buildings at Capital Hill, Madam
Making a storm in a cup of tea. I have never seen a primary or secondary school with ramps.
