Kanyenda secures deal with Bay United, named skipper
Malawi veteran striker Essau Kanyenda has secured a three year deal with South Africa’s National First Division outfit Bay United, Nyasa Times has learnt.
Kanyenda broke the good news to Nyasa Times on Monday.
The player who has been in Denmark and South Africa recently in search of a new club is expected to be unveiled at his new club on Tuesday.
“Yes I am with Bay United and I will be unveiled tomorrow (Tuesday September 11th),” said Kanyenda, adding that he has been promised captaincy.
But the forward did not give further details of contract terms.
The player became a free agent after playing professional soccer for 10 years in Russia following the expiry of his contract with Dynamo Bryansk.
This made him lose his first choice place in the national soccer team.
Track-record
Kanyenda launched his soccer career in 1998 while playing for a Malawi’s First Division side which was later promoted to super league Dwangwa United.
In 2001 he moved to South Africa’s Jomo Cosmos in Johannesburg between 2001 and 2003 before moving to Russia where he joined FC Rostov in Russia’s Premier League.
He then briefly left for FC Lokomotiv Moscow after being the third top goal scorer in Russian top league, but re-joined FC Rostov on loan until December 2006.
He also played for FC Lokomotiv Moscow in 2008 to FC KAMAZ Naberezhnye Chelny.
In spring 2012 he was persuaded to join the Danish side B93 by the former Malawi national football team
