KB, Nomads to kick off Malawi TNM Super League May 6
Malawi’s flagship football league, TMN Super League season will finally kickoff on May 6 with the official opening match would involve champions Kamuzu Barracks and Be Forward Wanderers.
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) General Secretary Williams Banda said a full fixture of the games would be released taking into consideration national team engagements and Football Association of Malawi competitions and its calendar of events
“I can confirm that we are ready for the Super League season to kick off on May 6,” Banda said.
“The official match to mark the kick-off will be a game between defending champions Kamuzu Barracks and Be Forward Wanderers.”
The development comes barely days after both sponsors and league runners were not committed to reveal the kickoff days, saying would be dependent on the acquisition of the equipment including uniform which is handed out to teams.
The kickoff, which was initially set for 8 April, was postponed indefinitely following the Competitions Fair Trade Commission ruled against TNM’s contract as monopolistic and unfair to their competitors eager to sponsor football.
The decision led to the withdrawal of TMN’s annual K90 million sponsorship after their rivals Airtel announced a Top 8 Cup.
Then TNM rescinded the controversial decision amid wide spread condemnation.
