Kumanga back at Red Lions as head coach

Zomba-based military outfit, Red Lions, has announced the return of Mike Kumanga at the club as head coach.

Mike Kumanga: Back as Red Lions coach

Red Lions are coming from a season of Southern Region Thumbs Up Premier League where coach Nelson Chirwa helped the team to earn promotion back into the TNM Super League.

The club hired Tione Mhone immediately after earning Super League promotion as Chirwa does not possess a minimum CAF B coaching licence as required by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) under Club Licencing.

But in a dramatic turn of events, Mhone who is a civilian, has been shown the exit door from the military side and reports indicate that Chirwa will be assistant to Kumanga.

General Secretary for Red Lions, Captain Davie Gondwe, confirmed the return of Kumanga.

“I cannot say why Tione Mhone will no longer be head coach for Red Lions. It’s something in-house. Kumanga will be head coach and Nelson Chirwa will be his assistant.

“We believe the two have the experience needed to guide the team since they have been super league players and coaches for some time,” explained Captain Gondwe.
