Light aircraft crashes in Malawi forest
Authorities in Malawi are establishing the cause of a light aircraft crash in a vast forest that has left the pilot and his passenger seriously injured.
The private aerodrome is identified as Gyrocopter CU-RCD SUBARU 2.5 Registration Number RAF 2000 Serial Number MZ 13-10-08 .
The accident happened in Thuma forest which covers Dedza and parts of Lilongwe and Nkhotakota.
Thuma forest scout Geofrey Umali said the aircraft makes air patros to locate charcoal burners who destroy the forest.
Two people on board identified as Cedreck McFerson 46 years from Manondo Estate in Namitete Lilongwe and Lynne Clifford 48 years from Thuma Forest Reserve, in Salima survived with injuries.
Salima Police PRO Sub Inspector Gift Chitowe confirmed about the accident saying the survivors have been rescued to hospitals for treatment.
Chitowe said the first victim sustained fractures on both ankles while the second victim sustained a fracture on her right arm and were both rushed to a Lilongwe Private Clinic.
The government deployed Malawi army soldiers to protect the forest from the charcoal burners.

Thuma forest reserve does not extend to Nkhotakota. Reporters please make an effort to know your country’s geography!!!!!
