Lilongwe District Council elects new chair: Exit Chaziya, enters Kawinga
The newly elected chairperson for Lilongwe district council says all councilors in the council need to work together to enhance development in their district.
Councilor John Kawinga made the remarks Friday after being elected council chairperson. He takes over from Councilor Samson Chaziya.
Kawinga said he was delighted that he has been elected to head the council saying he will ensure that tangible development activities are put in place and that committee members meet regularly to discuss critical issues of development.
“The district has 34 councilors, and we have seven committees that look into various sectors. Apart from these committees, I will ensure that we establish an advisory committee that will handle and resolve issues in every ward before we meet at a full council,” Kawinga said.
The newly elected chair stressed on the need for better coordination and cooperation between members of parliament, traditional leaders and the secretariat and work as a team to make Lilongwe an envious district.
During the election, Kawinga got 30 votes against 10 of his competitor Councilor Patricia Nkhono.
The new council chair is deputized by Councilor Nevalesi Kamchacha
