Mafco in finals of Malawi Presidential Cup: Boot out Tigers

Mafco FC coach Stereo Gondwe has vowed to clinch the prestigious K60 million Presidential Cup after his side cruised to the finals on Saturday following their 3-1 victory against Azam Tigers.

In an entertaining encounter played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, the Salima district based soldiers kicked-off the match with an aim of securing early goals as they out-played the Kanjedza boys in all the departments.

Welcoming back their match maker Zasher Nong’oneza, who is back from peace keep mission in Ivory Coast, Mafco opened the score sheet through Paul Ndlovu before another one from Calisto Kalinda.

Tigers, who also welcomed back some of the key players like Bashir Maunde, who were involved in a car accident some months ago failed tick as they misplaced most of their passes.

Mafco ultilised the weakness of Tigers especially on the midfield where they failed to command.

In the entire 45 minutes the game belonged to Mafco while Tigers were like mere passengers.

However, in the second half the tempo of the game changed as Tigers controlled everything well only that their striking force was lacking the sparks to fire shots on goal.

Five minutes into the second half, Tigers pressurized the soldiers and it was not surprising when they pulled one back.

When spectators thought the Kau-kau boys will come back into the game Oswald Nkagula proved them wrong when he headed in a Zasher Nong’oneza well taken throw in to the satisfaction of their coach Stereo Gondwe.

After the match, there was parade at Kamuzu Stadium as Mafco players lined up to the applause of the spectators who most of them were Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers fans.
