Makhwawa re-elected Malawi Law Society president
The members of the Malawi Law Society have reelected John Gift Makhwawa as President for another term in a democratic and transparent ballot.
The result is a strong show of support for Makhwawa, who has been optspoken against actions of the Bingu wa Mutharika government which have undermined the Rule of Law and jeopardised the livelihood of Judiciary workers.
The Blantyre based lawyer has been on record asking President Mutharika to stop disregarding court orders.
Accoriding to Mwakhwawa , the Mutharika led government has been condescendingly discarding court orders singling out one by the High Court in Blantyre on the troubled Malawi Electoral Commission to be opened, as a classic example.
And recently the ‘detention’ of lawyer Ralph Kasambara while court had issued bail, was another cited example of disrepection court orders.
Makhwawa added that there were so many other court orders that government calculatingly chose to ignore, saying such behaviour is very bad trend to the justice system in the country.
During the polls, Likhwa Mussa was elected vice president.
Other key positions went to Bright Theu voted as Secretary General and Allan Muhome as treasurer general.
