Malawi army soldiers train for UN peace keeping mission in DRC
About 850 Malawi Defense Force (MDF) soldiers are training for a UN peace keeping mission in war torn Democratic Republic of Congo.
The political tension in DRC is very high following President Kabila’s decision to postpone elections this year.
Trainer for the soldiers Lieutenant Colonel Luke Yetala said the trainees are doing well in their training.
They are training on Chikala Hills in Machinga with the help of British and American trainers.
“Everything is going according to plan and we are hopeful they will do well,” he said.
The training comes at a time when two United Nations experts who went missing in the DRC have been found dead, posing a challenge to the Malawi soldiers training to bring peace in the war torn mineral rich country.
