Malawi government through Minister of Health, Jean Kalilani expressed gratitude to China for the donation of medical drugs and equipment worth K150 million, saying it will help improve the quality of care to patients.
The donated equipment included the electrocardiograph, pulse blood oxygen unit, electric aspirators, X-ray equipment, infant incubators, consolidated operating table pregnancy test strips, malaria blood test equipment, stretchers vehicles, anesthesia parcel, aneroid manometers, and many other medical gears.
Beneficiaries of the drugs and medical equipment are Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe and Mzuzu Central Hospital (MCH), according to Chinese Ambassador Zhang Qingyang handed over the donation to the Government of Malawi on Thursday..
Zhang said health is on top of the agenda of China-Malawi relations.
“ Every year, the Chinese government, through the Chinese medical team, donates some medicine and medical equipment to this country. It is our hope that this donation will help in a small way to alleviate the drug shortage in the public hospitals,” he said
Zhang pledged that China will continue to keep in close contact with Malawi to expand cooperation in health.
