Malawi legendary musician ‘Sir’ Paul Banda to release new album
Legendary musician Paul Banda “Sir” Paul Banda has revealed his plans of releasing a new album after spending so many years of break.
The veteran gospel singer, who is also one of the founders of the famous and oldest band Alleluya, made the revelation in an exclusive interview with Nyasa Times on Saturday when he performed at Zembani Lodge as part of his 50th birthday celebrations.
“Of course after taking a long break plans are there to release a new album but that will be next year (2014)” Banda told Nyasa Times.
Banda who has already started working on the new project assured his fans that they should expect good music in the next album.
He has only lately been producing the best of Paul Banda collection of his songs.
Commenting on the show which was organized particularly to cheer with his fans, the 50 year old musician thanked the people who patronized the show.
“I feel greatly honoured that all these people came here to join me as I celebrate my 50th birthday and I don’t take it for granted” he said.
Performing for about two hours non-stop, Banda produced a grand performance that kept the audience on their toes dancing to every song.
He performed about 15 songs before paving way for Reggae Ambassador Charles Sinetre.
Banda, the father of what came to be known as Balaka music, also advised the current crop of musician to refrain from promiscuous behavior to live long and achieve more in the music industry.
Sinetre stormed the stage with the popular hit Chimangafisi Dollar and later ditched out Saulo, So Stupid, Chidiso Mumtolomo, Kulota satumana, Googler-title track of his brand new album among others.
Before Paul and Sinetre performed, other upcoming Alleluya Band musicians performed a number of previous Alleluya Band songs to the satisfaction of the patrons.
The band also introduced a new kid on the block from Charles Mafukeni who has released his brand new album entitled “Garu wa Mfumu”
But it was a quartet of Coss Chiwalo, Foster Chimangafisi, Enott “Spear” Mbandambanda and Paul Luka impressed with their new Alcapella songs taken from the brand new album Tiyimbire Moyo.
The show was double celebration to people of Balaka as they also commemorated 35 years of Alleluya band’s existence.
Catholic group was formed 35 years ago by Paul Banda.
