Malawi lose a friendly with Bafana Bafana 1-3
Malawi national football team, the Flames, on Saturday registered another defeat when they went down 1-3 to Africa Cup of Nation 2013 hosts South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in their friendly at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
The hosts led in the first half 2-0.
Malawi came out into the second half looking to reduce the two goal deficit and were handed a golden opportunity to do so, three minutes into the second period.
Siyabonga Sangweni was adjudged to have brought down Robert Ng’ambi inside the penalty area, despite claims that the Malawian took a dive in order to be awarded the spot-kick.
Josephy Kamwendo stepped up to take the penalty and thundered home into the top left corner of Khune’s goal, reducing Bafana’s lead to just one.
Another penalty, 15 minutes from time, settled the outcome with James Sangala charging recklessly into an opponent and substitute May Mahlangu sending goalkeeper Simplex Nthala the wrong way.
Bafana scored goals through Lehlohonolo Majoro (sixth minute), Siphiwe Tshabalala (10th minute) and a 74th minute penalty bysubstitute May Mahlangu.
