Malawi Ombudsman arrested on theft charges: Freed on bail
Malawi Police Service in Lilongwe have arrested the country’s Ombudsman Justice Tujirane Chidzumira.
Police said they have arrested Chizumila, Malawi’s de facto public protector, and would want to quiz her on two counts of Abuse of office and theft.
Deputy National Police publicist Kelvin Maigwa has confirmed the arrest.
“Police are interested to question the Ombudsman on allegations of theft and abuse of office,” Maigwa told Nyasa Times.
Chizumira was taken to Police Headquarters at Area 30 for interrogations.
Chizumira,has been in the news recently for all the wrong reasons. Workers at her office downed tools accusing her of nepotism.
She also spurned summons to appear before Parliament to answer the workers’ concerns.
