Malawi Police arrest manager for stripping naked a servant

Barely a week after the Balaka second grade magistrate’s court in eastern Malawi convicted a 20-year-old bride for undressing a 16-year-old bridal girl over unsettled debts; police in Balaka district have arrested a 29-year-old manager for allegedly stripping naked a servant over shortage of money from beer sales.

Balaka police spokesperson sub-inspector Joseph Sauka says the suspect Charles Rashid who runs a Bar at Mthandizi location, employed the victim as barman on Wednesday.

He says after stocktaking later that evening the victim was found with a shortage of K3, 890.00 and this annoyed Rashid who stripped the victim naked and started assaulting him.

“He later booted him out of the bar while naked and was given a wrapper to put on by sympathizers who saw him naked,” says Sauka.

Meanwhile, the suspect is still in police custody and is to be taken to court soon where he will answer a case of indecent practices between males which is contrary to section 156 of the penal code.

Charles Rashid comes from Lupanga village, Traditional Authority Nsamala in the same district of Balaka.
