Malawi Police challenge media to sports showdown
Come Saturday February 11, Malawi Police Service (MPS) headquarters in Area 30 will turn into a battleground between the law enforcers and media personnel. The two will put aside their guys and handcuffs, pencils and notepads, to see who is the greatest in soccer and netball show downs!
Confirming the development, coordinator for the media team in the capital city, Lilongwe, Gabriel Kamlomo said he had made full arrangements with MPS national spokesman, Public Relations Officer Davide Chingwalu.
“The venue is set and it is Nankhaka Stadium and games will start from 8:30am,” said Kamlomo. “We are also been feted to a few drinks at the Area 30 Officers Mess after the game.”
Kamlomo added that this get together game will also allow the journalists to bring their cameras and pens and recorders to document the event. The game also hopes to heighten good relations that exist between the two seemingly ‘cat and dog’ industries.
The soccer team will be spearheaded on the pitch by Kondwani Munthali, heavy footed Pilirani Phiri, noisy Horace Boti and Horace Nyaka, Charles Mkula, nimble defender Vitima Ndovi supported by Singayazi Kaminjolo, Peter Makawa, dribbler Charles Vintula and hard-worker Peter Jegwa Kumwenda.
Vice coach on the bench will be die-hard touchline pacer M’theto Lungu led by Kamlomo and team patron is Sam Makaka.
The netball team, being coordinated by photo-journalist Lucy Kadzongwe will include non-nonsense players such as Rebecca Chimjeka, Fazilla Tembo, tough defender Lisa Vintula and top scorer Enelles Nyale, among many others.
“All journalists should meet at Nankhaka at 8 am on Saturday,” Kamlomo advised.
