Malawi Police intensifies hunt for Balaka murder suspects
Police in Malawi’s eastern district of Balaka have intensified a hunt for unknown criminals who broke into a number of shops and murdered a watchman at Mfulanjobvu Trading Centre in the district.
Balaka police spokesperson sub inspector Joseph Sauka says the suspects who were armed with panga knifes terrorised Mfulanjobvu Trading centre on the night of 9th July 2013 and murdered a 71 year old Matebule Manyati who was working as a watchman at the shops of Mr Wilson John.
“The suspects were about 15 in number and terrorised the area at around midnight and broke into five shops and stole assorted items including cell phones and cash valued to K564, 500.00 before murdering the watchman,” he says.
He says the post-mortem conducted at Balaka district hospital revealed he died due to head injuries especially deep cuts on the head.
The deceased hailed Chimphikiso village, Sub Traditional Authority Chanthunya in Balaka district.
Sauka is making appeal to the general public to report to their nearest Police if they suspect anyone to be involved in the gang or found anyone selling groceries suspected to have been stolen.
