Malawi ruling PP official accuses Admarc, govt officials of sabotage
People’s Party (PP) central region provincial chairperson, Kizito Ngwembe has accused some he Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) and government officials for trying to sabotage President Joyce Banda administration by deliberately mismanaging government set projects.
Ngwembe, speaking during ‘development’ rally at Chule ground in T/A Kaphuka, Dedza on Tuesday, accused some Admarc officials for mishandling fertilizer subsidy programme in order for Banda to be labeled a failure.
ADMARC is government-owned corporation, which among others; markets farm inputs and agricultural products in Malawi.
Ngwembe cited the selling of fertilizer to vendors and demands of bribes by some officials from farmers as some of moves by the unmade officials to spoil the reputation of President Banda.
”Vendors are allowed to buy fertilizer when the beneficiaries are being denied. In some depots they are selling the fertilizer at K3, 000 a bag instead of set price K500, and some officials are soliciting bribes. We know they are doing all this just to make our leader look like she has failed but we will not allow that to continue,” Ngwembe said.
He asked Banda to take a major shake up by firing all those working against PP led government.
”Some Admarc officials are working so hard to pull our President down. And the courts are lenient on those who are involved in subsidy malpractices”.
This year’s fertilizer subsidy has been marred with irregularities which include distribution of fake coupons and sand mixed fertilizer, delay distribution and theft of coupons as well as the cheap fertilizer with some areas currently not supplied with fertilizer or coupons despite being rain period.
