Malawi team off to Ethiopia for Cecafa: Mtawali optimistic of better results

After bringing hope and optimism into the Malawian National team, coach Ernest Mtawali is now confident that the Flames will upset the tables for the 2015 Cecafa Cup in Ethiopia.

Mtawali made the remarks on Thursday afternoon before the team’s departure for Ethiopia at Chileka International Airport.

Malawi are in group C alongside Sudan, Djibout and South Sudan who they play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week respectively.

Speaking to Nyasa Times, an excited Mtawali said his team will give everything at their disposal to make sure they beat Sudan in their first assignment on Monday and set their dream alive of qualifying in their group.

“I am proud with the way the team performed during training. Iam also delighted because we have assembled a young squad, which will gain experience during the tournament,” said Mtawali.

“I have great confidence in my team and I trust that they will make the whole nation in Malawi proud by qualifying in our group ,” said the former Flames midfielder maestro.

Mtawali has named a squad that includes two new faces in Civo’s Nelson Kangunje and Levison Maganizo of Surestream.
