Malawi U-17 beat South Africa to retain bronze at 2017 Cosafa Cup
Malawi Under 17 national football team salvaged some pride at the Cosafa Cup held in Mauritius by beating South Africa to retain bronze.
According to Kickoff both teams approached with the hunger and thirst to win and finish on podium position.
” Despite a brave effort South Africa’s national Under-17 side were pipped to the podium by Malawi as they ended fourth at this year’s Under-17 Cosafa Cup,”states Kickoff.
Malawi got to the end of an epic battle with a goal scored in the first half.
” With the bronze medal on line both started the game in determined manner with a number of fouls marring the opening stages of the game. Yet it was Malawi who got their noses in front in the 27th minute.”
Malawi scored through Tsamba whose unstoppage strike left South Africa goalkeeper Constand in Christodoulou helpers between the goals. Malawi survived scare to go for recess leading. Malawi cushioned the lead just five minutes after resumption.
But Amajimbos never gave up as they piled pressure forcing Malawi to concede a penalty. Junior Nare made sure to score from a rebound in the 73rd minute to give his side hope. Malawi’s Auspicious Kadzongola was named man of the match the fifth of the tournament.
