Malawi U-17 out to impress at Cosafa -Msakakuona
Malawi Under 17 National Soccer Team coach Deklerk Msakakuona has disclosed that his troops have had successful camping and smooth preparations a development he said gives him confidence the team will dish out the best performance at this years Under 17 Cosafa Cup Junior Champions slatted for Mauritius.
The 20 man squad, which left the country on Tuesday, is full of ‘hunger for success’ .
“When a farmer plants cotton for sure he wants to harvest cotton and not maize. We want to go there and do well,” Msakukuona is quoted by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) official website.
He further advised Malawians that they should not mainly target on the team winning the cup but rather also focus on building the next senior Flames team.
But he admitted it is the wish of everyone to compete and win when going to a tournament.
“It is my wish as a coach, the wish of the boys and the wish of the nation to win the cup,” said Msakakuona.
He has included three players from the last squad that represented the country last year and brought home a bronze medal.
The three are Chikondi Mbeta, Innocent Nhlema and Captain Haji Walli.
The Junior Flames won the tournament only once way back in 2001.
