Malawi VP Kachali grilled by ACB in corruption probe
Malawi’s graft-busting body Friday for summoned Vice President Khumbo Kachali for questioning over alleged corruption.
Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director Justice Rezine Mzikamanda said Kachali was called to appear before investigators at the bureau to answer questions linking him to on-going investigation into the looting of public resources at Capital Hill, also christened as Cashgate.
“I can confirm that the vice president has been summoned to appear before us for questioning,” said the ACB boss
The summons could mean ACB is preparing official charges against Kachali, who has been accused of abuse of office and graft.
President Joyce Banda snubbed Kachali for running mate over his tainted image and record when he was given an opportunity to serve as Vice President from 2012.
But Kachali speaking to reporters accused government of launching a “witch hunt” against him.
However, investigators say there is “overwhelming evidence” linking Kachali to a number of corrupt practises.
