Malawi’s Minister Kachere picks daughter as PA
Minister of Disability and the Elderly, Reen Kachere hired her daughter as a Personal Assistant.
Mphatso Ndasowa, Kachere’s biological daughter was employed as Personal Assistant Grade G (P7).
But Kachere said there is nothing wrong for her to pick the daughter to be a Personal Assistant.
“There is nothing wrong,” said Kachere, arguing that a personal assistant is not a regular civil servant and was picked on merit regardless of her relationship.
Office of President and Cabinet (OPC) spokesman Aurther Chipenda said ministers are allowed to select their preferred personal assistant but that the employment authority lies with OPC and the department of human resources
According to Chipenda, Personal Assistants to the ministers are recruited based on their qualifications and competence to serve the cabinet ministers effectively.
He said relationship is not disclosed when recruiting the aides for ministers, saying nepotism is not encouraged.
