Malawi’s Miracle at Kaizer Chiefs impresses: Mabedi says Gabeya has promising future in South Africa
Malawian defender Miracle Gabeya has impressed the technical panel of South Africa’s top league side Kaizer Chiefs.
Gabeya is on trials despite having no blessings from his Malawian top club Nyasa Big Bullets.
According to Kickoff, he has impressed alongside Italian forward Gustavo Paez who is also on trials during the January transfer window period.
“Italian forward Gustavo Paez and Malawian defender Miracle Gabeya have shown early promise at Kaizer Chiefs. The pair are currently training at Naturena with the view to possibly landing contracts,” states Kickoff.
Gabeya was part of former Malawi National team coach Ernest Mtawali rebuilding exercise although he was not a first team player for a good part of the just ended season.
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Malawi national team captain Patrick ‘General’ Mabedi backed Gabeya to seal a deal at the Amakhosi saying he has what it takes to play for the team.
“I am optimistic that Miracle Gabeya can have a chance to play for Kaizer just as I did,” he said.
But Mabedi also threw his weight behind the youthful defender for seeking his lucky in South Africa without following club red tape measures.
“He is on off season and I don’t see why Bullets should be worried,” he said.
The promising defender was groomed by former Bullets captain Peter Mponda at Surestream Academy.
Gabeya could follow in the footsteps of former Malawi national team skippers Jack Chamangwana and Patrick Mabedi who enjoyed their career at the club which has produced some of soccer greats in South Africa’s Lucas Radabe who went on to become captain for Leeds United then playing for English Premiership, Doctor Khumalo, Siyambonga Nomvete among others.
