Malawi’s Mtimaukanena IBF title bout postponed
Malawi’s boxing queen Agnes Mtimaukanena’s IBF inter-continental female Welterweight bout against Kenya’s Florence Muthoni, billed for July 27 has been called off.
According to Eastboxing.com the bout has been cancelled after failing to live up to expectations.
Eastboxing.com stated that: “The Kenyan beautiful Florence Muthoni’s date with Pricess Agnes Mtimaukanena of Malawi’s rumble has been postponed after it has failed to live up expectations.”
It stated that Mtimaukanena’s camp, which was looking for K5 million (US$125,000), was not promising that it would manage to beat meet the bout’s schedule.
“The tournament has been postponed until further notice after team Mtimaukanena’s late campaign to woo the corporate world for the support,” states the report.
The failure has been regretted after the bout generated a lot of interest around the world.
During the tournament various boxing stakeholders would have undertaken a four days intensive ring officials, manager and promoter’s seminar which would have been conducted by a team of experts from the US sponsored by Malawian boxing stakeholders.
Mtimaukanena’s manager Winnie Salama has been appealing for the corporate world to assist towards the bout.
Smile Boxing promotion, owned by journalist, Saulos Thindwa, was engaged last week in a desperate attempt to help promote the bout.
Thindwa promised to secure sponsorship for the fight.
