Malawi’s Radio Islam mourns Petroda boss
All programs on Malawi’s only Islamic radio station, Radio Islam were suspended on Wednesday from morning to midnight when the station closes except its 7:30 p.m news bulletin which comes back to back in English and Chichewa.
Instead the station was airing Quran recitations and condolence messages as one way of mourning the death of the Chairman of Petroda one of the oil companies in the country, Muhammad Nahdi who was reportedly of died Malaria in Dubai.
The reason he found himself in Dubai was not immediately established.
An official from Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) confided in Nyasa Times later in the afternoon that Nhadi was one of influential Muslims in Malawi who deserved such an honor from the radio station.
“Besides being Chairman of the Al-baraka trust which runs several Islamic projects in the country, Nahdi was known for contributing charity works for Muslims and non Muslims in Zambia, Tanzania as well as Malawi”.
He also said besides this, Muslims conducted special prayers for Nahdi in various mosques.
Also in a condolence statement monitored on the Radio Islam during its evening news bulletin, National Coordinator for the Islamic Information Bureau Dinala Chabulika said Malawian Muslims were “saddened” with the death of the Petroda boss.
He said Nadhihas been contributing positively not only to the welfare of Muslims in Malawi but also to the country’s development in general.
The body of Nahdi was laid to rest the same day in Dubai.
