Malawi’s top league rookies Extreme appoints Zimba CEO
Mchinji-based Extreme FC are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to compete in the top-flight TNM Super League after earning from the Central Region Football Association Premier League by appointing businessperson Lonzo Zimba as chief executive officer.
In an interview, on Monday the team’s chairperson Prosper Chisale confirmed that the Malawi Professional Boxing Board of Control president has what it takes to manage the team.
“He is a humble man and a philanthropist, who has been helping a lot of people. With his experience in sports administration, we are optimistic that we will help the team,” he said.
Zimba also confirmed that he has taken up the offer, considering that it is the first time for a team from the district to compete in the top-flight TNM Super League.
“This an honour to be appointed as this is the first time for my home district to have a team in the Super League. What we need right now as a starting point is to mobilise like-minded people to help the team,” he said.
Zimba also allayed fears that his appointment could have an impact as he would have divided loyalty to execute his duties.
Extreme FC caused sensational in the FDH Bank Cup after reaching the semi-finals and lost to FCB Nyasa Bullets Reserves.
Extreme FC were promoted alongside Chitipa United and Bangwe Super Stars from the Northern Region and Southern Region, respectively.
