Man who robbed and stripped girls, jailed
A 24-year-old man in Thyolo was on Thursday convicted and sentenced to two and a half years in jail with hard labour for robbery and forcing two girls to strip naked in front of him.
The man, John Finias, on May 24, 2012 robbed the girls of their Nokia phone and a sum of K17,000 and thereafter forced them to strip naked in front of him, but did not touch them.
He later told them to dress up and run away from the place.
One of the girls’ (name withheld) said Finias met them at Mekemeke in Thyolo where he threatened them with force to comply to his orders.
Finias was later arrested in August after one of the girls recognized him at Thyolo Market and informed other people who captured him and took him to Thyolo Police.
Second Grade Magistrate, Lameck Mkwapatira found Finias guilty on two counts of robbery and sentenced him to two and a half years and two counts of indecent assault which earned him two years imprisonment which the magistrate said would run concurrently.
He however, added that the man deserved the custodial sentence because the incident traumatized the girls.
John Finias hails from Masharubu Village, Traditional Authority Kapichi in Thyolo.
