Match Analysis: Why Mighty Wanderers tumbled down to Silver Strikers

At Silver Stadium, Area 47 in Lilongwe, during one of the TNM Super League matches in week seven, it was a toss-up between the two blue teams as they battled for three points. Silver Strikers played tik-tok football on a chilly, overcast, and rainy Sunday afternoon. They had several possessions in the first and second halves of the game, with several shots missing the mark in the first forty-five minutes.

The Central Bankers’ Tatenda M’balaka, Uchizi Vunga, and Chikondi Kamanga executed brilliantly at the center of the park in both halves, while Stanley Sanudi and George Zulu were excellent in the first half, during which their goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa made some excellent saves.

But, two second half goals for Silver Strikers from Chikondi Kamanga in 57 minutes and Zebron Kalima’s 84th minute stunner sealed a victory for the Area 47 side despite stormy and heavy downpours for the entire second 45 minute.

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers had limited opportunities, the greatest of which came in the first half when unmarked goal-hitter Wisdom Mpinganjira slid the ball over the bar, altering the course of the first half’s goalless conclusion.

Looking at both sides in the top four of the TNM Super League log table before the match, former Civo, Mzuni, and Dedza Young Soccer Coach Millias Pofera Jegwe described the play as “a fantastic game” after the game.

Pofera Jegwe evaluated that he anticipated a monumental game.

Pofera Jegwe commented, “We have seen Silver Strikers missing opportunities, as they might have won the match in the first half, and could have even scored two or three goals, but lack of composure to the side of Silver Strikers, players, caused them to believe that they shouldn’t score any goal in the first half.” He said that he had anticipated a huge match, as evidenced by what happened on Sunday afternoon.

The former Civo coach went on to explain that the bankers were a different team after the break. They scored in the 57th minute, following a level pass from Chimwemwe Idana to Chikondi Kamanga, and Zebron Kalima scored second goal to complete the victory.

The Mighty Mukuru Wanderers made an effort to alter things in spite of that. They added Clement Nyondo, the best striker from the previous campaign, along with other strikers, but they were unable to boost the spirits. Even the midfield format from before that was absent when they failed to pass. In actuality, it didn’t pay off despite bringing in the young guy, who is an under-20 player, according to Jegwe.

He went on to say that the Nomads lost a game because they were falling behind and taking advantage of them.

The coach and analyst, for the Silver Strikers freely explained that they won the game because they played fantastic football. It’s no surprise that they did. “This is an excellent reminder to all of the TNM Super League teams that they need to be extremely ready to face the Silver Strikers and even tame or echo with them.” said Pofera Jegwe.

Aside from that, we have witnessed an exquisite game. In addition, there were instances when the referee should have lost some control over what was happening on the playing field. However, by the end of the game, he had everything under control, and the central bankers had won 2-0.

After the match, Silver Strikers Coach Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda applauded his players for keeping safe and control of the ball throughout the play. He explained that exactly what he told them, is what has been done.

“There are still more games to play, we need to put more focus on incoming ones, so that we can also do our best. The league is still on.” responded Mponda.

And his counterpart, Assistant coach for Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Meke Mwase conceded defeat and admitted that they lost both focus and lots of the ball possession and it costed them during second period of the match.

Mwase said, “They (Silver Strikers) were playing at home, “But we have lost, we need to go back on drawing board to rectify some of the problem experienced today.”

Uchizi Vunga was voted player-of-the-match going away with not less than K50,000 TNM Mpamba Cash-In after his stunning display and maneuver at the midfield.

This means Silver Strikers still clings on top of TNM Super League log table with 19 points, 7 matches played, while Mighty Mukuru wanderers still holding 4th position despite a defeat with 12 points.

In other matches on Sunday, MAFCO won (Yohane Malunga scorer) by a goal to nil away to Bangwe All Star, Premierbet Dedza Dynamos drew nil-nil against Chitipa United at their backyard and Karonga also drew one-all against Civo Service united in Karonga as Muhammad Biasoni’s goal cancelled first half goal by Ellie Kayombo.

Back on Saturday, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets won two-nil against Mzuzu City Hammers to come second in the log table, thanks to Chawanangwa Gumbo and Patrick Mwaungulu for the goals. Creck Sporting Club is back in winning ways after beating FOMO FC at Civo Stadium with a goal to nil and Stain Patrick on score sheet, while Kamuzu and Moyale Barracks ended with stalemate at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji.
