Similar project is taking place in Zomba and the two Incinerators have been installed with support from Global Fund to the tune of K453 million.
Speaking after inspecting the project at the hospital, Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daudi, emphasized the importance for health facilities to have modern incinerators for disposal of medical wastes.
“This incinerator will help the hospital and other health facilities around the district to destroy all the waste coming from the facilities,” she said.
Daudi said the hospital travels to other districts just to destroy the wastes but now they will soon start burning using this modern one installed at the hospital.
She however called upon the contractor to makesure the project completes in good time for use.
Main contractor for the project, E-Tech Systems Managing Director, Raphael Msowoya assured that the project will be completed in time.
“This is a modern facility that will simplify the burning of wastes at the hospital,” he said
The incinerator project was supposed to complete in December, 2023 but due to some challenges like forex it is expected to be functional in March, this year.
