MESN urge Malawians to check their names in voters’ roll
Malawi Electoral Support Network (MESN) has called on all registered voters to participate in the voters’ roll inspection exercise scheduled from Monday 24 March to April 5 to ensure that their details are correct.
MESN chairperson Steve Duwa said in a statement that inspection of the voters’ roll is a very serious process in the electoral calendar and as such voters ought not to miss it.
“MESN appeals to registered voters to seriously take the inspection of the voters’ roll because it will give them the opportunity to inspect how their names, pictures and other registration details are appearing in the voters’ roll.
“Registered voters who lost their certificates should also go to the centres where they registered to get duplicate certificates which will enable them vote easily on May 20, 2014. Those who would want to be transferred from the centres they registered are encouraged to go to the new centres where they will be able to go and vote and ask to be transferred to those centres,” Duwa said.
He asked the voters not to delegate anyone but go to the registration centres in person.
Duwa also asked Malawi Electoral Commission to provide the required equipment and personnel for the exercise so that all registered voters who turn up for the verification exercise are assisted. MESN further asks MEC to record data correctly s that the voters’ roll is very clean in the end.
He said during this the exercise, MESN long term observers will be available at the registration centres monitoring the exercise. These are well trained observers who were deployed to constituencies in February for observation of the various electoral processes
