Met warns of strong Mwera winds over Lake Malawi
The Malawi Meteorological Department (MET) is warning that strong Mwera winds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are expected to blow over Lake Malawi from Monday morning of 28 July, 2014 which is expected to cause high waves of 2.5 meters.
A weather report from the Met issued Sunday make available to Nyasa Times says the warning “will be updated tomorrow on 28th July, 2014.”
Earlier in June the Mwera winds on the Lake Malawi led to death of o 12 fishermen in the lake shore district of Nkhata-bay after their canoes had capsized.
In July last year, a total of five members who went for fishing on Lake Malawi went missing and feared dead following stormy Mwera winds that was blowing over the Lake.
Fishermen in Malawi have long been warned against getting into Lake Malawi during the months of May, June and July, when the weather is at its harshest.
