Mhango resigns as Attorney General, Kaphale appointed AG: Mutharika fires Kachikho, Mukumbwa in Cabinet reshuffle

President Peter Mutharika has accepted the resignation of Charles Mhango as Attorney General and has since appointed prominent lawyer Kalekeni Kaphale as the new Attorney General in a Cabinet reshuffle.

Charles Mhango: Resigns as Attorney General and replaced by Kaphale
Kaphale: Back as Attorney General
Chilenga now deputy minister
Kachikho: Sacked

Mhango is actively involved in partisan politics as governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member and has been facing widespread calls to resign or face the chop.

He previously denied that there was no conflict of interest.

But announcing a Cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday, Mutharika replaced Mhango with Kaphale who held the position before he returned to private practice.

According to a statement from Lloyd Muhara, chief Secretary to government, President Mutharika has fired Anne Kachikho a legislator from Phalombe and her Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has not been given to Jean who has been moved from Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare which is now headed by Cecilia Chazama.

Chazama was Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security which has been given to Nicholas Dausi under a new name as Minister of Homeland Security, while Charles Mchacha is the deputy minister.

Henry Mussa is now government spokesman as new Minister of information and Communications Technology, replacing Dausi. His Ministry of Trade and Industry has been given to Francis Kasaila who has been moved from Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development now held by Grace Chiumia.

Chiumia’s portfolio at Civic Education, Culture and Community Development has gone to Everton Chimulirenji a promotion from deputy minister of defence.

Chitipa legislator Clement Mukumbwa has been sacked as deputy Minister of Gender, Children, disability and Social Welfare.

Mutharika has appointed Welani Chilenga as deputy minister of natural resources, energy and mining.

Those who have retained their ministerial portfolios inclue Atupele Muluzi (Health and Population), Jappie Mhanga (Transport and Public Works), Bright  Msaka (Education, Science and Technology), Samuel Tembenu(Justice and Constitutional Affairs), Emmanuel Fabiano (Foreign Affairs), Joseph Mwanamveka (Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development)  Goodall Gondwe (Finance and Economic Palnning), Kondwani Nankhumwa (Local Government and Rural development) and Aggrey Massi  (Energy, Mining and Natural Resources).

Two Attorney Generals resign the same day in two countries which share many stupid similarities. One of them is that they have presidents who think they are the only important mortals in this world. The other is that these two presidents lived in a country which touts itself for being the best democratic country for at least 40 years but they are themselves not democratic at all, in fact they are thieves – colluding with foreign countries to steal from their account number one at home, they are corrupt run their countries with impunity.
