Michiru Madrid send SOS for Carlsberg Cup quarterfinals fixture
Michiru Madrid have sent an SOS to raise money to enable the team travel to Mzuzu for the Carlsberg Cup quarterfinals against Moyale Barracks on Sunday.
Michiru have become a sensational team in this years Carlsberg Cup after beating Super League teams Master Security 1-0 and Chitipa United 3-2 on their way to quarterfinals.
But Technical Director Sylus Liwindo said the team could not afford to raise K1.2 million to meet basic requirements for transport and accommodation.
“Michiru Madrid is a Blantyre based junior football team whose aim is to develop football at grassroots level. The team has qualified to the quarterfinals with a game against Moyale after Super League teams, Masters Security and Chitipa United,” says a letter seen by Nyasa Times.
“Currently the major challenge with the team is that its operations are supported with inadequate resources mobilized through well wishers, supporters and individuals.”
“Michiru Madrid will play an away game against Moyale Barracks on Sunday, 12 August,2017 at Mzuzu Stadium and it is against this background that we are requesting you, your organization or institution to support the team with material or financial support.”
The request has been made with a budget estimated at K1,093,000 to cater for bus hire at K500,000, players accommodation at K40,000, food and players and officials allowances.
Liwindo said so far the response has been encouraging with pledges made by well wishers if they would be fulfilled the would manage to travel to Mzuzu for the fixture.
