Minister tells Mayor Bikoko to stay in his lane
Local Government Minister Kondwani Nankhumwa on Thursday summoned estranged Lilongwe Mayor Desmond Bikoko and cautioned him to stay in his lane.

Nankhumwa, a political heavyweight summoned Bikoko and the Council’s CEO Moza Zeleza alongside Principal Secretary for the ministry to deliver his utter disgust over the alleged conduct of the Mayor, Nyasa Times understands.
“Your worship please leave the operations of the secretariat alone. Your role is that of steering goodwill of the citizens and partners but not administrative. Please leave administrative issues to the CEO he is hired to handle those,” Nankhumwa is reported to have told the Mayor.
Apparently a day before the summon, Bikoko had gone to deliver his accusations to the PS but was caught in the middle failing to re-open the same statements he conveyed the previous day.
“Your worship please tell the minister and the meeting the same thing you said to me yesterday,” the PS is reported to have told the Mayor a statement that saw him mute and jaw dropped.
At this juncture the minister asked the CEO to explain why there is bad blood between the two unlike is the situation in other Cities where Mayors and CEO have cordial relationships.
The borne of contention, it was heard that the Mayor was mistaking his position as an Executive Mayor as is the case in other countries.
In Malawi, the role of the Mayor is simply ceremonial meaning he has no powers to interfere with the Secretariat and it’s operations but help in formulation of city by laws and enhance corporate and citizen relations.

What’s the point if mayor can’t fix anything. Let the law change perhaps its archaic
Bikoko was elected mayor CEO not elected bikoko must know his boundaries… mukati kondwani political heavy weight mutanthawuzanji… ? Kupopa akuba basi…. him he ddoesn’t differentite boma ndi ndale… Malawi we have good civil servants luso lawo.likutha because politicians you are intervening into their careers or education . Malawi watha walowa bwemba BIKOKO PAMAFUNIKA KUMUPHIKA BASI ITS too much
Mr. Mayor. Becareful of Cllr Nkhoma and January, they are feedinng this old loser Zeleza information about you and other Councillors for Mk20,000. Thats how Zeleza operates. Divide and rule
Ameya ndiabwino kwambiri. Ife kuno ku commerce timasangalala kuti akumenya khondo zokonza lilongwe. Vuto ndi management. Palimbe chumene akuchitapo kutukula lilongwe. Ameya musazilabadire izi. Awa ndi a nyani okhaokha. Pitilizani kumenya khondo.
There is a problem I see with the City Council there is no definite separation of power. The Mayor wants to do the job of the CEO. The CEO is the controlling officer not the Mayor.
As much as some people think that running a business like Madson Holdings will entail a person to hold on to tenets of professionalism, Bikoko has failed to read the script.
The Minister did well. He exercised maturity and professionalism. Please Councillor Bikoko….stay in your lane.
He has a PhD he should know its simple.
Mayors in othet cities dont have a problem with their CEO is because the CEO are performers. Bikoko is a performer but has a terrible CEO who loves to talk talk and talk but no action.
The Minister says he had no such meeting. Bikoko has also refused to have met the minister. Inside source says Zeleza and Tamara want to flood social media every other day to discredit Bikoko. Zeleza is a failure and uses such tactics everywhere. He failed failed at Reseve Bank, Malswitch, and had his pharmacy business closed for none rental payment. He has failed at Lilongwe and now looking for blame game.
We also hear that the Mayor is sitting on several huge time bombs as far as money deposited into some fundraising accounts is concerned. Lets watch and learn.
DPP shouldnt have allowed this guy to come in. Akutiwonongela chipani. He was better off ku Congress. The same goes to Bisnowatty. Bikoko is a weakest link to DPP. The earlier we DPP realize that, the better. We now blame Dean Josiah for bringing into the party this moron. For us, Wild Ndipo of Blantyre and that of Zomba are star performers.
Haaaaaaa heeeede
THUMBS UP FOR THE MINISTER FOR PROVIDING MATURE ADVICE TO THE MAYOR. MAYOR AND CEO SHOULD WORK IN HARMONY. SHOULD THERE BE SOME MISUNDERSTANDINGS OR DIFFERING VIEWS, THEW TWO SHOULD ENDEVOUR TO MEET IN CLOSED DOORS AND IRON THEIR DIFFERENCES!
