The Minister of Sports and Culture Grace Obama Chiumia has weighed in on the importance of Confederation for African Football (CAF) C coaching license saying it is the only way the country’s football can be improved.
She made the remarks during the opening of a two-week training for CAF C coaching license in Dedza which has been organized with financial support from Malawi Sports Association and the ministry of education.
“As government we are very committed to develop football in the country and this training is very important as it is complimenting to our efforts by equipping skills and knowledge on football coaching to the participants,” the minister said.
He further urged the participants to take the training very serious so that they come up with good results at the end of the course.
Speaking to Malawi news agency (Mana) the deputy president for Football association of Malawi James Kamwendo said FAM has embarked on an exercise to train sports masters in schools and those in clubs so that they are well qualified and have a coaching license.
“As FAM from now onwards we will only entertain coaches that are qualified because we want to issue quality of football in clubs here in Malawi,” Said Kumwenda.
He added that the 70 participants that are being trained in CAF C license will make a total of 100 coaches with CAF C as the country right now has 27 coaches with CAF A license and 66 CAF B and 20 CAF C.
Kumwenda was very thankful to Malawi sports association for the financial support that they have given towards this exercise.
Albert Mpinganjira, Peter Mponda and Mavuto Lungu are some of the notable legends in football attending the training.
