Mr. Malawi pageant auditions early October
Vitu Kamanga, Director at Artistic Agency, has confirmed that auditions for the first ever Mr. Malawi beauty pageant are anticipated to kick off first weekend of next month, October, at Cresta Crossroads Hotel in the Capital Lilongwe.
In an interview, Kamanga told Nyasa Times that the agency is set to host the pageant after several consultative meetings with both government through the Ministry of Culture and corporate world in order to have a rosy event.
“I would like to confirm that Artistic Agency in partnership with Elegant resources is now ready to host the Mr. Malawi beauty pageant. We will conduct the auditions on 5th and 6th of October Crossroads in Lilongwe,” Kamanga explained.
He further explained that the auditions for the pageant which will see the victor getting away with, among other prizes, MK500, 000 cash, will be done only once and that will be in Lilongwe. This according to the organizers, means contestants from Blantyre, Mzuzu and other parts of the country will meet their travelling costs to the city.
Kamange also explained that the event is open to all Malawian men of ages between 18 and 27, fluent in English and conversant with Malawian culture and several issues.
“The Mr. Malawi pageant event exists for the purpose of providing personal and professional opportunities for young men of ages 18 to 27. It is our goal to provide outstanding these men an opportunity to compete in a pageant system that has the highest moral values. It will have a positive atmosphere and wonderful direction towards culture, language and several other antics,” he explained.
He added: “I believe the contest will make the winner relatable to a diverse range of men, giving them someone they can easily look up to and ask for direction. Someone who could be himself and hold the values of honor, courage and commitment.”
Kamanga also said that the contest would be much more than a typical beauty pageant or reality-show competition, saying the two highlight the depth of commitment and creativity in the men’s community while choosing one man who represents the best of these qualities.
The 2013 Mr. Malawi will represent the country at Mr. World.
“The pageant will also consist of a string of celebrity performances. The winner will reflect how men are and moving forward in an era of equality and acceptance. We have many strides to continue on this path and the winner will represent Malawi at Mr World in a fashion that will make us all proud,” he said.
Previously the Weightlifting Association of Malawi (WAM) organised Mr Malawi contest which was won by Henry Master. Other former Mr Malawi is Isaac Mwangonde.
