Mtambo join frontline politics: Forms people power movement CFT

Malawi prominent human rights activist Timothy Mtambo, who is one of President Peter Mutharika’s most acerbic critics, has left the leadership of Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) to join frontline politics after announcing on Wednesday that he  has formed a people power movement called the Citizens for Transformation (CFT).

Mtambo: This is the time to rise and rescue Malawi.

HRDC under Mtambo’s leadership has been tussling with government over human rights issues and organizing anti-government demonstrations.

Mtambo said he is going into frontline politics to help to rescue Malawi from what he calls “accidental and transactional leadership.”

He said his Citizens for Transformation is a liberation and transformation movement and will be launched soon.

Mtambo said he is not abandoning the fight for human rights only that this time it will be on a political platform.

“I will continue the fight against impunity, executive arrogance and economic stagnation but now on a different platform – the political space – a platform I believe would be more effective in helping me to directly contribute t the realisation of the change which all Malawians aspire for which is to rescue Malawi from DPP oppressive rule and to have a meaningful, inclusive social, political and economic transformation for all Malawians,” said Mtambo.

Mtambo said it is now time to wear revolutionary boots, step out and demand citizens need.

He said through his CFT, he joins selfless Malawians who decided before him to put the democratic interests of Malawi over and above their own.

Mtambo urged Malawians to join the “frontline battlefield of rescuing Malawi from the DPP’s clueless, oppressive and corrupt rule.”

  3. The end of UTM. Mtambo will take the Northern vote and what will Chilima have to bargain with. Basitu. Actually CFT can register as a party. MCP can work with CUT and kick Chilima out and they would still win.

Comrade Mtambo is a hero and a great man, his HRDC led demos made a big impact and influence in the current DPP and Jane Ansah most hated animals called 50+ 1 majority and fresh presidential elections Concourt ruling directives .Mtambo demos ensured the five Concourt judges remained focused and serious, lets some of you don’t know. How many times did Professor Peter Muthalika mention Mtmbos name in the past 12 months? Answer: so many times, why? A DPP cadet can answer better.Welcom CFT

He thinks those following him during demos were his followers….? Those were MCP and UTM thugs he shouldn’t cheat himself that this movement will work the way he thinks. We welcome him on the ground of politics and see what are the challenges. But he’s not supposed to say that he want to oust DPP which DPP……?   23. Some Malawians were made fools by Mtambo. One of them is Chakwera who joined each and every demo organized by Mtambo. Mtambo has now done well. The North should atleast have a party. Levi Nyondo and his church should join this party.

    1. Scared cadet? Chakwera is always being mentioned even when an issue under discussion has nothing to do with him. You know why? Because the man is too smart for APM and most DPP heads put together. Chakwera, just like Chilima and other Opposition leaders, joined demos in their own right.

They were loads of comments here from those who claim to know you better, speculating that For all they know about you, all you were doing was for personal spotlight – I don’t know you so I can’t comment much on your character not on your intentions in recent happenings BUT one thing I can tell you is that there is a gap on the current political scene in Malawi designed specifically for you – Take Aford’s territory! AFORD is no more and it’s followers can’t affiliate with any other party in Malawi coz they are so loyal to their own norms and cultural convictions. They would follow you though, you fit the bill in many ways (I won’t go into details). You have a chance of eradicating AFORD completely. Look, the AFORD followers are so so loyal. They can’t move to other parties. They are happy to get stranded and wait for as long as it takes for someone who fits the bill to then lead them – and you sir, fits the bill. Exploit the AFORD collapse. Accept that you will never make it big in politics but you will make yourself relevant and grab the AFORD following. Position yourself as the fitting alternative to fainted AFORD.

  34. When Comrade Fidel Castro wanted to unseat Cuba’s Batista he knew it couldnt be easy, he wanted a firebrand partner in Che Guevara with his socialist attitude and it succeeded. Fidel thought of paying Che Guevara by appointing him a cabinet minister but his socialist philosophy was a threat to Fidel and his government. UTM and MCP operated behind Mtambo to attack the government but I believe he doesnt feel contented with how the two political parties complemented his radical foresight. What does this mean the majority that appreciated HRDC’s efforts will slowly migrate from UTM and MCP to the new revolutionary movement and eventually the two parties will get into conflict with Mtambo. Politics is dynamic..keep an eye on how things will unfold in the coming months…we will get to where we started..Life is circle.

The ex-reverend Lezala Nyolonyo’s mercenary Timothy Pagonachi Ntumbo has now come out in the open after commandeering the murder of the late Police Superintendent Usuman Imedi, massive looting, burning and breaking and destroying the economy. This idiot should now face the music for the mayhem and maiming he caused in the name of the right to peaceful demonstrations. After a debrief by another fool, Billy Mayaya, he feared coming for demos in Blantyre because he new that nyekhwe awaited him. I promise you Ntumbo, see you on the ground and kiss my ass.

  39. APM has now been vindicated when he said that the terrorist Mtambo was not actually fighting for anybody’s rights but rather that he was power hungry and was just testing waters . The biggest loosers in all this are Chakwera and Chilima who have been fooled all this time by Mtambo. The HRDC has left MCP’s image seriously damaged beyond repair and the amount of nkhanza which MCP has demonstrated lately shall be remembered by all in many general elections to come. A considerable amount of image damage is also coming from baby chilima and Sulemani and I hope MCP gurus are able to see this. The composure which MCP one had is quickly fading out by associating with children.
