Mutharika denies being gay amid rumours about his sexuality
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Peter Mutharika has publicly denied being gay following much speculation around his sexual orientation.
Mutharika used his mouthpiece online publication Voice to say he “a widower of 30 years” having lost his wife.
His comments comes after much speculation about his sexuality in the social media.

The DPP leader said he was married to Christophine G. Mutharika from the Caribbean who died of cancer.
Together they had three children, two girls and a boy – Monique, Moyenda and Mahopela – who are all “prominent” lawyers in the US.
But critics have said no one has ever seen or hear that Mutharika’s children came to Malawi to visit him.
“Why should I publicise whenever my children visit me,” he said as quoted by his online publication, adding that his children do not need publicity whenever they are visiting him.
The 74-year-old said he has now found a woman that he feels can make “a good wife.”
Mutharika has been appearing in public with Gertrude Handrina Maseko a former member of parliament from Balaka.
