Mutharika tours Blantyre projects, impressed with progress of Chileka dual carriageway
President Peter Mutharika has expressed satisfaction with progress of the dual carriageway from Clock Tower to Kameza Roundabout in Blantyre, saying the construction work is of good quality.
Mutharika said when he toured the road project and other projects in the city on Thursday.
“I am so glad to see the work that has been done. Its high quality work we were expecting from this contractor,” said Mutharika.
The President, who also visited the new Chinese Hotel project at Chichiri, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regional offices at Sunnyside, and Blantyre Market, warned contractors against substandard work.
Said Mutharika: “Any contractor now who does substandard work, I am not going to pay them until they redo their work.”
The dual carriageway project, which missed its deadline in March this year, has 92 percent of the project been completed, according to Blantyre City Council (BCC) deputy director of engineering services Sekani Gondwe.
Gondwe disclosed that road will be fully opened on October 26, saying they are remaining with the construction of the suspended concrete railway overpass structure at Chirimba which will require K6.5 billion.
