Mzava boost defensive options for Flames
The Malawi National soccer team coach Kinnah Phiri can finally breathe a sigh of relief with news that South African outfit Bloemfontein Celtic has released defender Limbikani ‘Pupa’ Mzava to join camp with only 2 days to go before the Afcon qualifier game against Tunisia.
Kinnah registered his disappointment with Celtic’s delay to release the sweeper saying he wanted Mzava in camp early to open up his options in defence since Elvis Kafoteka is not in camp after the death of his wife last week.
Mzava was delayed by work permit procedures in the rainbow nation and was expected in the country on Tuesday but failed to make it.
Football Association of Malawi’s CEO Suzgo Nyirenda confirmed the development to Nyasa Times and says Mzava will be in the squad.
“I was on the line with former flames player John Maduka who is an official at the club and has assured me that Mzava has been released and will join camp,” Nyirenda said.
In an interview later, Kinnah sounded relieved and says he will assess the player on arrival and see how best he can use him in Saturday’s game.
Kinnah also disclosed that he will name his final squad for the game on Friday.
