Ndilowe axed for arranging JB’s trip to US
Former Chief Secretary in the Office of President and Cabinet Hawa Ndilowe has been removed from her post after it was discovered that she was arranging a foreign trip to the United State of America for former president Joyce Banda without informing the incumbent Malawi President Peter Mutharika, Nyasa Times has established.
Banda is expected to travel to the USA where she will also proceed to the United Kingdom and is expected to be out of the country for closer to a month with the Malawi Government meeting all her travelling expenses.
However, government sources say that the trip which was being arranged by the OPC had no blessings from Mutharika after Ndilowe decided to work on it without informing the current government.
The sources say that Ndilowe acting in her capacity as Chief Secretary made all the arrangements for Banda’s international trip before seeking clearance from Mutharika.
Mutharika just knew about the trip through senior officials at OPC and had to summon Ndilowe to explain the position before a decision was made to fire her and redeploy her to Malawi’s High Commission in Tanzania where she is expected to be head of mission.
Among several business while in the USA Banda is said to be going there to finalize talks with top United Nations officials who wants to offer her a job at the UN secretariat as an undersecretary in the office of the UN General Secretary.
The former Chief Secretary was sacked from her post on Tuesday along the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) commander Henry Odillo. Her deputy, Willie Samute is now the acting Chief Secretary to the Government.
