New UNFPA envoy presents credentials to Malawi
The newly-assigned United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Resident Representative in Malawi, Ms. Violet Kakyomya presented her letter of credence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. George Chaponda in Lilongwe on Wednesday (January 21, 2015).
Chaponda welcomed Ms. Kakyomya as the new UNFPA Representative in Malawi and said that UNFPA has been a long-standing partner for Malawi. Ms. Kakyomya is replacing Mr. Athanase Nzokirishaka.
At a ceremony which took place in the conference room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and attended by the senior officials in the Ministry, Hon. Chaponda hailed the good work UNFPA is doing in Malawi in the areas of population, maternal health, HIV and Gender.
Ms. Kakyomya, who presented her letter of credence from the UNFPA Executive Director, Dr Babatunde Osotimehin to the Foreign Affairs Minister, expressed appreciation to the Government of Malawi for allowing her to contribute to the country’s development process and vowed to exert all her effort to this goal.
The UNFPA Representative was accompanied by the Assistant Representative Ms Dorothy Nyasulu and Personal Assistant to the Representative Ms Martha Elisa. —UNFPA Lilongwe – Malawi
