PAC tells Malawians to accept elections case outcome
Quasi religious body, the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has pleaded with Malawians to accept the Constitutional Court presidential election petition case on Monday, saying Malawi remains their country after the verdict.
PAC spokesperson Bishop Gilford Matonga said Malawians need to trust and believe in the rule of law.
The court is expectedly to give its verdict on the case amid high political tension following the highly disputed May 21, 2019 polls.
Matonga also repeated PAC calls to the political leaders involved in the case to accept the court ruling.
“Acceptance of the court ruling is the beginning of peace,” said Matonga.
He said all parties should preach peace and desist from promoting violence.
On their part, two of the three political parties involved in the case—Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and UTM Party—have welcomed the setting of the date of judgement and appealed for calm.
UTM Party spokesperson Joseph Chidanti Malunga said: “UTM believes in the rule of law and we will adhere to the ruling.”
MCP spokesperson the Reverend Maurice Munthali also said his party will remain calm during and after the verdict as long as justice prevails.
In the case, two of the presidential candidates in the May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections—UTM Party’s Saulos Chilima (the first petitioner) and Lazarus Chakwera of MCP (the second petitioner)—want the court to nullify presidential election results over alleged irregularities, especially in the results management system. President Peter Mutharika, who was declared winner of the elections, is the first respondent with MEC as the second respondent.
PAC please don’t fool us. We are tired of the way how you handle your issues. Remember that before the Tripartite election you gathered all the participants to sign that they will agree with the outcome of the results and you made them sign. After elections, you have witnessed the mess your people who signed have done yet you haven’t done anything to hold them accountable and some of you were behind the violence supporting it. So what are you telling us now?? We are tired of listening to your nonsense
These bastards who are calling for peace are the most fucked up motherfuckers. We are sick and tired of our votes being stolen by Jane Asnah and this tribalistic mohalko Peter Hitler Mutharika president. If those judges have been bribed and rule in favor of the tribalistic regime— Malawi in its history will go on fire. We can’t be forced on somebody that more than 70% of Malawians rejected. DPP is a tribalistic political party that only represents the interests of the Southerners. Look at Peter Hitler Mutharika’s cabinet make. It composed of his tribe people. His tribe people are… Read more »
Accepting or not accepting the so called court ruling will depend upon the outcome of the same court ruling if the the ruling is justifiable it will be accepted but if it like tipexed polls and biased then forget about acceptance i hope our learned judges have gathered enough evidence from those hearings and submissions to come up with fair ruling
What do you mean when you say as long as justice prevails???? Koma azibusa amene munalowa ndalenu mitu yanu sigwira olo pang’ono, kuma church kwanu mumalalikira zotani???
Kumeneko timati kupepela. Khalani chete. Mukulankhula kwambiri.
I found those calling us to accept judgement without knowing the ruling to be too disrespectful and they hold content of our mental capacity. Zingatheke bwanji zimenezo? Ology tiri opusa, we can’t accept something without knowing it.
We will only accept the truth , MEC used tippex to rig presidential election results. The judgement should favour citizens and petitioners not DPP and MEC.
The other of the three is ‘mum’ on the issue of acceptance of the ruling regardless of who it is going to favor. This speaks volumes as to which party is not yet ready to respect the rule of law. not too surprising though!
Matonga here we just pray that our learned judges do the needful because peace may only com with justice. looking at the proceedings of the court on this case it really left everybody wondering at what was being disclosed. I pray our judges do the needful
Reverend Maurice Munthali, what is the meaning of justice in this case when you say MCP will remain calm if just prevails.
